BGEN membership

1. Joining BGEN
Anyone is welcome to join BGEN, though as a support network, those likely to gain the most benefit are professional biodiversity educators within the UK.

2. Our current members...
We have over 200 members. Most are educators in botanic gardens and other centres of environmental education within Britain and Ireland.
They:

• Help visitors understand the vital work of botanic gardens, parks and historic gardens
• Raise awareness of plant diversity, conservation and the role of plants in our daily lives
• Work with many audiences including families, school groups and the wider community
• Make links between people and plants around the world

3. Membership benefits BGEN can offer you and your organisation:
The chance to share and improve skills, knowledge and resources, through:

• Value-for-money training workshops and networking events
• A members’ directory
• An email newsgroup
• The opportunity to work together globally for plant conservation, through
• Strong links with related organisations, including PlantNetwork (the Plant Collections Network of Britain and Ireland) and Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI)
• Representation of botanical education and our members’ interests at a national level

4. Prices (annual)
Annual membership fees (calendar year, January to December):

N.B. large organisations who wish to have more than 12 members can take out more than one organisational/individual membership.

5. Membership criteria and benefits
Named members are:

• Entitled to receive copies of all mailings (though organisations can opt to have fewer mailings delivered)
• Members also have the option of joining the BGEN email list (the BGEN email list is not normally available to non-members)
• All full (paying) members of BGEN are entitled to vote at General Meetings, (Honorary members are not entitled to vote)
• Members agree to accept the Articles and Memorandum of Association for BGEN as a Limited Company, and to act in accordance with its rules and regulations. These are available on request from the BGEN Co-ordinator.

Organisational members
All staff (paid staff or volunteers) at your organisation are entitled to attend events at the member’s rate, whether named as BGEN members or not.

N.B. Staff from organisations who are members of PlantNetwork are also entitled to attend events at the member’s rate
Where only individual membership is held by a member(s) of the organisation, other colleagues pay the non-member’s rate to attend training days.
