Online Plant Profile Project Lead: Royal Horticultural Society

  • Horticultural Information & Advice/ RHS Science
  • Location: Wisley, Surrey with some home working
  • Contract: 37.5 hours per week, fixed term for 2 years
  • Salary: £30,915 per annum
  • Closing date: 21st February 2020

The RHS Horticultural Information & Advice team has an exciting new opportunity available for an individual with a passion for garden plants and sharing information online.

Working closely with RHS colleagues, plant committees and societies, nurseries and others you will help us grow the number of plant profiles available on rhs.org.uk/plants.

You’ll proactively build productive relationships with people and groups that have information to share and will work with them to gather and format information about plants efficiently. Ideally you will already have a strong personal network to draw on for this purpose. This role will involve some national travel, speaking at events and acting as an advocate for the RHS and Find a Plant.

You will research and write profiles that help gardeners make decisions about which plants to grow and encourage them to grow a greater diversity of plants and cultivars. Your writing will be accessible and clear and will align to the RHS ‘coaching’ tone of voice.

You’ll work closely with our digital team to ensure that the images accompanying our profiles are the best quality and correctly identified so that gardeners know what the plants will look like and the profiles are visually inspiring.

You’ll be working with our horticultural database to store and publish information, so experience of working with database and content management systems is a definite advantage.

If you have experience of writing for the web, have strong plant knowledge and know where and how to find information about garden plants this is a fantastic opportunity to join the team at an exciting time. We will soon be moving into our new offices in the new National Centre for Science & Learning and are embarking on the first year of a new RHS Science Strategy.
