Location: Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum, Rose Lane, Oxford and Oxford Lodge, Nuneham Courtenay
Salary: Grade 7, £32,817 – £40,322 p.a.
Closing date: 14th February 2020, midday
This is an exciting opportunity to join The University of Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum (OBGA) Education Team and work across both the Botanic Garden (in Oxford city centre) and Arboretum (a few miles out of Oxford). OBGA is committed to education in all forms and at all levels. The Secondary Education Officer will play a crucial role in delivering OBGA’s mission to inspire people with the scientific wonder of plants, and in particular, the core strategy of Education and Engagement.
With your passion for plants and science, you will embrace the challenge of exciting secondary school pupils with a varied programme linked to science in the National Curriculum, at a time of declining engagement with plant sciences in the secondary and post-16 education sector. You will also have the opportunity to deliver training sessions for postgraduate students, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions for teachers. Informal education work will include contributing to seasonal fairs, events for family and general audiences, and our Public Education Programme.
You will contribute to strategic decision-making and development of the Department and its work, as well as that of the GLAM Division (Gardens, Libraries and Museums). Specifically, you will be a key player in our ambitious plans to develop new facilities at the Garden and Arboretum, and associated programming. The role involves frequent weekend working, often in school holidays and demands a hands-on and positive attitude at all times.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 14 February 2020.
